I created the 'Light Show' section- an audio-reaction part of the show which builds up the pace to the finale. For this piece I wanted the audience to feel uplifted through the play of lights and shapes and take them on a bit of a journey. For the pre-pro I looked at references of organic shapes and found special interest in underwater creatures and their luminescence. Also, fireworks and light trails were big inspirations to help me develop the look and feel. Another thing which I explored was dividing the mountain into sections to reflect the nature of the audio track and how it's made from individual parts or instruments. By separating the instruments I was able to work on the design of each element, animate them and bring them to life on the mountain. In these vignettes, we see famous and powerful leaders from history caught in the act, exposing their dirty secrets and fetishes. Some highlights- King Henry the 8th in his boudoir indulging in his pig fetish (hmm), Napoleon's shameful tribute to Saturday Night Fever, and also, Queen Elizabeth's midnight gluttony... The animation is snappy and fast paced and the humour sharp, so we have just enough time to register what's going on before the camera moves on. Using found vintage illustrations and colouring them in bold, quirky colours, the opening titles take us on an indulgent gossip trip... kind of like watching E News but for historical figures.
